What we are working on today...

Two openings that are a little "out of the box" but exciting nonetheless -

1. Mortgage Industry IT Consultant/Project Lead/Project Manager
Our client has a need for someone who can help structure their IT department, identify gaps, and implement processes including change/release management. This needs to be someone with strong IT consulting, PM, or hands-on technical experience who knows the mortgage lending business inside and out. Any experience with EllieMae Encompass is helpful. This is a full-time position. Ideally, the person will be based in Oklahoma, but they could operate out of North Texas and commute as needed.

2. Web Administrator
Our client in Addison is looking for an aggressive, on-the-edge "Geek" (my word, not theirs!) to take responsibility for administering their web sites, setting up sites, colocation, basic SEO, and traffic analytics. They will also have responsibility for supporting email servers/POP3 and performing basic duties including ripping/burning DVDs and converting files. This should be someone who is always investigating new trends and tools (like Google Wave, for example) and looking for a better way of doing things. As the company grows, the responsibilities for this job will as well. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity. The industry is media/TV.

For immediate consideration, please send your resume to clinebarger@capstoneinc.com.

New Friends, New Openings

During times of unemployment and uncertainty in the job market, it is always impressive to see people rally together to help others -- networking, sharing ideas, sharing job leads. It's the silver lining on the unemployment cloud. I witnessed this big-time last night in my enounter with a group here in Dallas called Career Connection, a group that assists candidates in finding their "match" and landing jobs. Career Connection has actually been doing what they do so well for the past 17 years, headed up by their founder Lisa Miller, with some help from her great team, and they have seen amazing results!

They were kind enough to let me be a part of a recruiting panel last night, and I have to tell you that the people I encountered were amazing -- pure joy -- people who are taking initiative in their career search -- genuinely great people.

There are times as a Recruiter where the candidates I work with inspire me to do my job better, work harder, and keep my focus on the bottom line of what I do (and the initial reason why I chose this profession) -- helping match people with great jobs. The group last night did exactly that.

Thanks for a great evening at Career Connection -- a shout out to my new friends that I met afterward!

Here are my new openings for the week -- if you see one of interest, drop me a note at clinebarger@capstoneinc.com

Resume Tips and Current Openings

The ticket to landing an interview is a good great resume. People come into my office all the time with a wealth of experience and capabilities, but they do not have a resume that reflects it.

There are a few keys to a great resume.

  • Organized lay-out. Make it easy to read. Do not see how many fonts you can use -- keep it simple. Use headers to help divide sections (i.e. Summary, Technical Skills, Education/Certifications, Experience)

  • Use describing words. Don't just say that you developed an application, say that you were solely responsible for developing a high-transaction, high-volume application, or whatever describing words will fit. Paint a word picture of what you did and how you did it.

  • State your value. Use quantifiers to talk about the impact of your contributions. Perhaps you saved the company money or reduced run time on an application (thus saving the company money). Let potential employers know that what you did made a difference.

  • Don't limit your resume to 1 page. Unless you are fresh out of college, you are doing yourself a disservice. By limiting your resume, you are limiting the amount of information that a hiring manager should know, and eliminating chances to use those all-too-important key words on a resume.

  • On the flip side, don't write a book. A manager will look through about 3 pages of your resume.

Hope those tips help! And once you perfect that resume, let's get it submitted for one of these positions:

- Data Architect - SQL Server/SSIS/MOSS
- .NET Server Architect
- Technical Analyst (automating and scripting monitoring software; FTP; encryption)
- Java Developers
- Automated Test Leads
- Load Test Engineers
- SAP: Basis, Product Costing, MM, Project Systems
